More on Nozick's Entitlement Theory

I agree with Megan that Robert Nozick's reading on Entitlement Theory was a little Utopian in thought. I feel he is questioning our society, government, and culture. Our society, government, and culture (Americans) are all based on basic beliefs in democracy, capitalism, and the American "Dream". What Nozick speaks about is not in line with what our current society practices. I think change is good, necessary, and also scary. Change is the big buzz word in the primaries now and possibly Nozick is onto something with this theory. However, I believe that change will happen in our society, but not to the full degree Noziak suggests. Like we stated in class, our government is too cumbersome and has too many laws to make a drastic change.

This theory is very interesting and thought provoking. It questions who we are and how we are being perceived morally. I question its viability and feasibility though in implementation. Far to often, I feel, philosophers, like Nozick, speak a big game but then have no implementation plan or course of action (of coarse not you Dr. Silver). I believe the role of our class is to talk about ethical challenges in our society. From these discussions (and what differentiates BUAD from PHIL class sections) we can look beyond the theory and discuss possible implementations of these theories into real life business settings. Entitlement Theory is no exception and is a great discussion for business ethics.
